Getting advanced with WordPress 4: Using the “Press This” bookmark

The "Press This" tool is an even easier way to create posts from other sites and to add images as well. But it only works on your own computer – don’t use this technique on shared computers as it requires you to be logged in to your WordPress account.

Go to "Tools" on the dashboard

The Tools menu is towards the bottom of the dashboard.

Get the "Press This" bookmark

Click and drag on the "Press This" label

Drag it to your bookmarks bar, as in this image. Put it where you want it and rename it if you want.

Using the Press This Bookmark

When you read a web page that you want to use as the starting point for a blog entry, select the text you want to quote (no need to copy it), then simply click the "Press This" bookmark.

A window will open with a new blog post already created. The title will be taken from the web page you’re quoting, so you might want to edit it down, or change it altogether.
The text you selected is there, as is a "Via" link, already formatted for you.

Adding an image

Above your text are two icons next to the word "Add". These allow you to embed images or videos from the site you’re quoting. Click on the image button and WordPress will scan the page you’re quoting and show you any images it can use. Just click on the one you want.

Up comes the next window. When you’re happy, click "Insert Image"

Add some formatting

Add your own text around the quote to give some context and your own opinion, and make the quote "block text" by selecting it and clicking the button that looks like a quote mark.
Add categories and tags as appropriate, then click "publish".

The finished post

And here it is, all formatted with a nice picture at the top!
